Using Data To Alleviate Population Displacement Caused By Climate Change

At the United Nations climate change conference, COP28, held in Dubai, a key point of discussion was the displacement of large numbers of people in Africa from their homelands as a result of climate change. In this video, members of the UN International Office of Migration (IOM) talk about the critical role that data and GenAI can play in alleviating the impact of climate change on vulnerable populations, how IOM is taking advantage of the data collaboration and data sharing capabilities of Snowflake technology, and  the lessons learned from the Nairobi 2023 Hackathon co-sponsored by IOM and Snowflake. In addtion to IOM, organizations participating in the climate mobility discussions at COP28 included the UN Refugee Agency and the Global Centre for Climate Mobility.
